study questions:

For the Next Lesson: Haggai 2:20-23

1.Read verses 20-22. When is Haggai giving this fourth message as compared to the other three messages (see 1:1, 2:1, 10, 18)? Who is the recipient of this message, and how is that different from the other three messages? Why do you think God speaks specifically to this person? What does God say He is “about to” do? Why do you think this would be encouraging at the time this message was given just a few months into rebuilding the Temple?

2.Read Revelation 19:11-21. Take time to list out the different names given to Jesus. What are the different ways Jesus is described? These verses are very descriptive and graphic. What from these verses is most astounding to you? Why? How do these verses help you to better understand Haggai 2:21-22? How do these verses influence your view of Jesus?

3.Read verse 23. What do you think “that day” means in relation to when God will judge the nations from verses 21-22? What does a signet ring symbolize? Since Zerubbabel is a descendant of David, what is God promising Zerubbabel in this verse (see also 2 Samuel 7:12-13, 16)? Why do you think this would have encouraged Zerubbabel to be faithful in leading the people to complete the Temple?

4.So what. What have you learned or been reminded about God through this study? Which of these realities stands out to you most? How do these realities impact the way you relate to God? How do they impact your perspective on life? Does God’s future victory over all nations specifically influence the way you live today? Why or why not? Should it influence your life? Why or why not? What is one thing you are taking from this study that directly applies to your life?
